Koolfuel - Energy for a Future

About Strawsons Energy

Renewable Energy Suppliers Ltd, a company of Koolfuel, developed and patented the innovative method of willow production over a decade ago and since then fuel production has gone from strength to strength.

Koolfuel provides the consumer a high energy, uniform product, for both the domestic and industrial markets. Koolfuel is both sustainable and environmentally friendly whilst also being efficient and cost effective.

Koolfuel grows from Willow crops that coppice and then re-grow from the cut stumps. The crops once planted grow for 25 years and are harvested every 3 years.

Willow grows from early March to mid-September, during which period it can grow inches per day in the right conditions. Planting is traditionally closely spaced, forcing the willow rods to grow straight and tall to reach the light, which makes them ideal for koolfuel products. It produces generous foliage during the growing season. From mid-September to late November willow stops growing and gradually sheds its foliage. Between late November and early March willow is dormant and this is the season for planting further cuttings.

The willow is harvested every 3 years, at which time the crop reaches up to 5 metres in height. At harvest the crops produce 40 tonnes of koolfuel per 1 hectare.

Once harvested, the willow is processed. Each trunk is fed through a chipping machine which breaks up the willow into the different grades of fuel we offer. The chipping's are then collected and packaged ready for distribution.
